Can you update the sims 3 when you used torrents?

I downloaded generations using torrents but i bought world adventures, ambitions, late night, and the base game. Is it safe to update the game via the sims 3 launcher? Im afraid it might mess up my torrented game.Can you update the sims 3 when you used torrents?
You can, but it tends to break the game as its an illegal copy.
