I had to jailbreak my iPhone 2g and unlock it again because when I downloaded the iPhone 3.0 software, it detected my "invalid" sim card. So after SEVERAL hours of following instructions and watching youtube videos, I finally made my iPhone work again. But the problem is....I lost everything ='( I was hoping I could restore all my data (contacts, calendars, messages, notes, etc) from backup... but whenever i click restore from back up, a message appears that sex something like, "unable to retore iPhone from backup because your software is too old" then it wants me to download the latest software. If i did that, I'll just go back to problem # 1 and then it will detect my "invalid" sim card again :(( ISN'T THERE ANY OTHER WAY??='( WILL EXTRACTING MY BACKUP FILES WORK? You cannot restore your software if it is too old. I know it seems tedious, but write down your contacts. Reinstall the 3.0 OS and jailbreak it using purplerain. You will have to put your phone in recovery mode before you can do this (then click "make it rain" in the purplerain program). You will then have this new app (freeze) which you will use to install Cydia. You will then reboot your phone. I would add the ulrasn0w source repo666.ultrasn0w.com. Then install ultrasn0w via Cydia. You will then have to reboot your phone. You might need to turn off 3g if using another network that does not support it. Then put all of your contacts back in. Hold shift and click Restore. Then get an unmodified IPSW file to restore to, and then re-jailbreak.
