Recommend me a good smartphone that also works without a SIM?

OK, here's the situation... I'm 17, can't get a contract phone until I'm 18, and stuck with a Tracfone prepaid phone. The Tracfone's SIM refuses to work with any other unlocked GSM phone I have tried -- it either says "Bad SIM" or asks me for a PIN. I read somewhere that it will never work in any phone other than the one it originally came with.

I need a Windows Mobile-based PDA or smartphone. I would prefer to have a smartphone, so that when I finally do get a "real" phone and plan, I'll be able to use this one as my backup.

Here's the catch though: its PDA functions absolutely must work without a SIM card (or with an expired SIM). I just need to be able to access the organizer, calendar, Office Mobile, and media player functionality.

I saw some pretty good deals on the Samsung Blackjack on eBay (under $100). However, I don't want to buy until I know for sure that it will work without a SIM.

Thanks.Recommend me a good smartphone that also works without a SIM?
lol.... tracfone is crap. i don't even consider it a real service provider XD

depending on where you live, you can get AT%26amp;T or T-mobile prepaid, and use their SIMs with any unlocked phone.
